THE ONION BOOK

An opening animation for the book “The Green Onion Book”
by Ehud Banai, which explores his journeys and the human encounters that shaped his path.

The sequence follows a white onion rolling down a market slope until it is collected into a crate of green onions, transitioning into a dining scene where each plate represents a different character.

The white onion serves as a metaphor for Banai himself, an individual moving between environments and people, examining the tension between personal identity and belonging to a group.

The animation is created in a minimalist style, using a frame-by-frame technique that mimics black chalk drawing, emphasizing simplicity and visual precision. The process included storyboard development, style frame design, illustration in Procreate, as well as animation, editing in After Effects, and sound design.
